Notes for CHRISTIAN ABENDSCHON:

Soon after settling in NC, Christian joined with some of his neighbors in establishing the Coldwater German Lutheran-Reformed Church, now the New Gilead United Church of Christ, Cabarrus Co., NC. Cabarrus Co., originally part of Mecklenburg Co., became a separate entity in 1792. The first resident pastor of the Coldwater Church was the Rev. Samuel Suther (father of David Suther who married a Catherine Abenshine). Christian Abenshine and family appeared on a 1766 membership list for the Coldwater Church. In later years the following were listed as members of the Coldwater Church: David Suther and Catherine Abenshine and their family; Rhynehold Abenshine; and many others. Christian's will was dated 9 April 1793; he died in Cabarrus Co. abt. 1800. His will mentions his wife, Catherine; son Reinhold; daughter Catherine Propst; grandson Henry Propst; children of Darity [Dorothea] Culp; and daughter Madlena [Madaline] Slough. Christian's will was produced in Mecklenburg Co., NC Court April Sessions 1800. Will recorded in Cabarrus Co. Will Book A, p. 112.

Notes for CAPT. WILLIAM PROPST:

2nd. Lt. William Propst served in the Civil War. He enlisted on 7th. July, 1862 in Cabarrus County in Company "F" 57th. NCST. He enlisted when Company F organized in Concord in July 1862. Propst was captured at the Battle of Chancellorsville, May 4, 1863, but was exchanged in time to rejoin his regiment for the Gettysburg campaign. He was shot in the side at Gettysburg and was one of the thousands of wounded Confederates abandoned when the Army of Northern Virginia retreated at the conclusion of the battle. He was imprisioned until exchanged on May 8, 1864. He returned to duty, and was recaptured again at the Battle of Hatcher's Run, Virginia, on February 6, 1865. He was imprisoned at Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC., & Fort Delaware, DE. He was released on June 8, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

Frank Patterson entered the Army in January 1941. Company E, 30th. Division, 119 Infantry. His unit left Boston and landed in South Hampton, England. They visited France, Belgium, Netherlands & Germany. Were in 5 major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. He left service in September 1945.

George Brandon entered the Army Air Corp. in March 1943. 93rd. Heavy bomb group. Squad 335 flying B-24's for General Doolittle. Flew 11 missions and shot down on June 11, 1944. He was a navigator. His unit flew to England via Labrador, Iceland and then England. They flew missions all over Europe. He was shot down and spent time in POW camp "Stalag Luft #3 in Sagan, Poland". When Russians got to close they were moved to Moosburg, S. Germany. "Stalag 7A". He left service in September 1945. Returned back to USA at Boston.
