On September 9, 1738 Stephen Braun, age 37, from Ruschberg, Germany arrived at the Port of Philadelphia on the ship "Glasgow", accompanied by his wife and their first four children. Number of passengers: men- 120; women & children- 221; crew of 8; total 349. Stephen Braun & family after several years went to the Carolinas (1742). They most likely traveled from Philadelphia down the Old Philadelphia Road, down the Shenandoah Valley to Roanoke. They then traveled "The Carolina Road", which is through the Maggoty Gap to the Carolinas. Originating as the Great Warrior Path of the Iroquois centuries before, the path was frequently used by the Iroquois before being ceded to the whites in 1744 to become one of the most heavily traveled roads in all Colonial America. This old road was located about where Hwy. 220 north out of Greensboro toward Roanoke.

Michael was appointed constable in 1761 and was re-appointed on 01/12/1764. Michael was naturalized on 09/22/1763.

Abraham Brown was well known as the "Miller." His house, spring, blacksmith shop and grist mill were located behind what is now know as Dan Nicholas Park off Bringle Ferry Road on Persimmon Branch. (N 35'38.470 W 080'20.829) Abraham operated this mill till his death. Abraham is buried at Union Lutheran Church, Rowan Co., NC (N 35'38.634 W 080'23.628) His son, Jacob, Sr. operated the mill till his death. Probably did not serve in militia due to his age. He served in Patriot Service In NC during the Revolutionary War. Patriot Service means a collector of provisions, Defender of a fort, Delegate to the continental congress or to a provincial congress, express rider, fence viewer, furnishing as a substitute, gunsmith giving services, member of the Boston tea party, minister making patriot sermons, ect. David settled in about three and one-half miles from Salisbury on what was then known as the Cheraw and Fayetteville Rd, but now known as the road from Salisbury to Gold Hill, and near where Granite Quarry now stands.

Was a succesful farmer, owned a large tract of land, he was a man of high standing and wealth.

The Old Stone House was willed to David from Michael in 1807, this house remained in the David Brown Family until 1911, 104 years

1911- John M Brown sold the house to Benjamin Sumner for $650

1927 - Sumner sold the house back to the Brown-Fisher Association for $1000

Abraham Brown, II remained in Rowan Co., NC until 1816 when he and wife, Catherine Hess and probably three small children moved to Union Co., Illinois according to Perrin's History. Along about this time there was a great movement west to Union Co. because the soil in Rowan Co., NC was worn out. He purchased land from a John Brown just south of Jonesboro in the Meisenheimer precinct. He carried a large gourd with him during his movement west that contained seeds and other perishables. This gourd in now on display in the Cobden Museum. Cobden, ILL. just north of Jonesboro.

James Phelan served as a private in the 2nd. Illinois Infantry Regiment during the Mexican War .After his unit was formed during the Mexican War, it left Cairo, Illinois, travelling down the Mississippi River to New Orleans, Louisiana, where they embarked for Texas. Arriving there, they disembarked and immediately marched to San Antonio. Following a short stay there, they continued their march, leaving San Antonio on September 26, 1846, and arriving at Santa Rosa, Texas, on October 24, 1846. From there the unit crossed the Mexican border to Monclova, Mexico, and then continued on to Parras, Mexico. They rested there for twelve days. During this time, James Monroe's regiment attempted to intercept and capture the Mexican president, General Santa Anna. They failed in the attempt. On the twenty-first of December 1846, James's unit occupied Aqua Nueva. In six weeks they had marched a distance of 1000 miles.
