Notes for JOHANNES EHRENHARDT:
The Ehrendardts came from small villages in Pfalz, Bayern. The area is also known as the Palatinate, Bavaria. The village of their origin is called Ilbesheim, located in the Landkreis (County) of Kirchheimbolanden. This added descriptor is sometimes used to differentiate Ilbesheim from other villages bearing the same name. A record of the immigration of Johannes is indexed in Strassburger's PA German Pioneers 1727-1775, Vol. 1, page 356; also other Passenger and Immigration Public records.
Arrived in Philadelphia on 11/2/1744 with his entire family by his second wife, Anny Sybilla Taubin. They came in the British ship, Friendship, out of Rotterdam. He and his son Johan Philip (was only child old enough to sign) signed an oath to the King of England and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. (A son, Johan Jacob, by Johannes' first wife was already in America and had immigrated on 9/9/1738 on the Ship Glascow.)
Johannes obtained a land warrant of 100 acres in Lowhill Twp., Bucks County, Pa. in 1746. Upon his death in 1767, his eldest son Johan Georg (still lving in Pa) administered his estate. Johann Philip and Johann Kilian had already migrated to Rowan County, NC while Johann Henrich (the youngest child) never left Pa. Johan Georg migrated to Rowan County, NC after the death of his father, Johannes in 1774 and purchased a tract of land adjacent to Johan Philip. These 3 brothers generated an Earnhart population in North Carolina that far exceeds any other state.

Notes for JOHAN JACOB EHRENHARDT:
Johan Jacob, age 23 arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship Glasgow from Rotterdam on 9/9/1738. He was apparently single with no accompanying family. He came to America six years before his father, Johannes b:c1698.
Jacob settled in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. He was granted a land warrant on 1/31/1742 for 126 acres of land that lay south of present-day Main St. in Emmaus, Pa. Sometime later he visited Bethlehem, Pa and was so impressed with the Moravian brethren there, that he soon joined them. In 1747, he and Sebastian Knauss donated land to the community which would later be named Emmaus. There he farmed and carried on his trade as a blacksmith. Extensive records of his life and times reside in the Moravian Archives in Bethlehem, Pa.
Jacob died in Pa in 1750 and many of his descendants stayed in Pa. However, one son, Johannes (1750-1825) migrated to Pickaway Co., OH and spawned numerous descendants who fanned out into other central Ohio counties.

9. MARIA ELISABETHA4 EHRENHARDT (JOHANNES3, HANS COUNRATH2, HAMMAN1) was born 06/25/1730, and died in Pennsylvania. She married ALEXANDER CLINGERMAN. He was born Bef. 10/11/1738, and died Abt. 1803 in Rowan County, North Carolina.
Notes for ALEXANDER CLINGERMAN:
Considering the fact that Alexander Clingman lived 250 years ago there is a relatively large amount of information available about him. None of the records ever give his exact age but based on the date which Alexander Clingman took an Oath of Allegiance it is estimated that he was born before 11 October 1738. This thought is based on the assumption that he was at least 16 years of age when he took the Oath. It is presumed that Alexander was born in Prussia and immigrated to the colonies. There is little or no information about him until 1754. Lore passed down by some family branches (as reported by Mrs. Melinda Jones Cubbage) say that Alexander was a Lutheran and from the Palatine area of the Rhine. Alexander seems to have had no religious practices during his known lifetime.
Some researchers have indicated that Alexander was married to a Mary Ehrenhardt in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This information was reported by researchers in the Cruse family in the early 1970s and has not been reverified. There are some facts that coincide with this possibility. Johan Philip Ehrenhardt's family is known to have lived in Berk County, Pennsylvania. Johan's father Johannes Ehrenhardt and Johan Philip Ehrenhardt both took Oaths to the Government in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 2 Nov 1744, having arrived from Rotterdam on the ship 'Friendship'. Johann Philip Ehrenhardt was born in Prussia in about 1722 or 1723. Knowing that Alexander was born before 1738 it is thought that if he was married to a Mary Ehrenhardt it would probably have been a sister to Johann Philip Ehrenhardt. IGI records indicate that it was Johann's daughter but this may be in error. Another possible indication that Alexander was in Pennsylvania is the family of John Michael Clingman that is well documented as living in Berks, Pa. John Michael is approximately the same age as Alexander but to date no positive connection has been made.
It may be noted here that the French and Indian War was taking place in Pennsylvania at this time and may have been influential in causing Alexander to move to North Carolina.
The first positive information as to the existence of Alexander Clingman is when he is listed as a chain carrier for surveys which were performed on 2, 3, and 6 of May 1754 and again on 29 Aug 1754 in Rowan County, North Carolina. The survey performed on 29 Aug, 1754 was for the land which was later granted to Peter Arront, who was a neighbor to Alexander. This is documented in the "Abstracts of Land Grants, Vol. 3, for The Granville District of North Carolina, 1748-1763".
Alexander took the Oath of Allegiance in Rowan County, North Carolina on 11 October 1754 along with Casper Keener, Steffel Goodheart, and Mathias Beever. He would normally have been at least 16 years of age to take this oath. It is also presumed that his father did not immigrate or did not take an oath of allegiance when Alexander was a child, or that if an oath was taken elsewhere it was not recognized in North Carolina and he had to repeat the oath. One group of researchers claim that Alexander was an ardent supporter of the colonies freedom and because of such he was required to repeat his oath to the King of England every six months. No proof of this claim is known to exist. This would be a very rare occurrence if it is correct.
On the 12th of May 1756 620 acres of land between Grant and Crane Creeks was granted to Peter Arrant which is described as being adjacent to land which is called Alexander Clingman's corner, George Cathey, John Nisbet and the courthouse land. This is recorded in Deed Records Vol. 3, page 529.
On 19 October 1756 Peter Arrant and his wife Catherine sold this land to John Verrell, as recorded in Vol 3, page 428. The land is described the same using the term Alexander Clingman's corner and adjacent to the court house.
On both the 17 Oct 1757 and on 22 January 1757 the sale of this lot of land by John Verbell to John Long is described as being adjacent to the courthouse, Alexander Clingman's corner, and the path to George Cathey and John Nisbet. See Vol. 3 page 513 and Vol. 2, page 234.
On 4 April 1761 John Frohock was granted, by the Earl of Granville, this same piece of land previously described as Alexander Clingman's corner. This lot of land was 'L' shaped and based on the measurements of the land Alexander's corner is the inside corner of the lot. It is believed that Alexander was living on the lot but never developed it or paid the taxes on it and it was taken from him and granted to Mr. Frohock. After this time it is not referred to as Alexander Clingman's corner.
Alexander Clingman is listed as a Taxpayer for 1759 in the Rowan County Tax List of John Burnett. A second list for the 1759 Rowan Co. Tax List gives his name as Alexr Clingman. This is probably two different transcripts of the same document.
Alexander is listed in the 1761 Rowan County Tax List of Michael Brown as Alleseander Clingman.
There are two entries in the 1768 Rowan County Tax List of John Brandon that are probably referring to Alexander Clingman. The first is listed as Alexdr. Clinemon and the second is listed as Allexdr Climonmon. Again it would be interesting to see the original handwriting to clarify the entries.
Nothing is found until 1772. This leads some researchers to believe that there are two Alexander Clingmans, the father and a son. Other researchers believe that Alexander returned to Prussia to get married. This belief is substantiated by a couple pieces of information. In Peter Keiser's will he names his daughter as Elizabeth Clingingman. A second document is the immigration record of an Elizabeth Clingmanin and son Andreas, 2 1/2 years old. This was in 1766 in South Carolina as part of the Protestant Refugee Bounty Act of 1761. On the same ship was listed a 19 year old Peter Keysher. It is thought that these are the children of Peter Keiser, of Mecklenburg County. Also listed are several Irrigs and a Fisherin. I have wondered if Alexander went to Prussia as a representative of several of the members of the community to arrange for the immigration of family members, using the Protestant Refugee Bounty Act of South Carolina as a means of immigration and acquiring land in South Carolina. The land given to Elizabeth Clingmanin was located between the Savannah and Broad Rivers. This is a very large area and exact location is not known. It is a fact that a couple of Alexander and Elizabeth's children moved to Orangeburg, South Carolina, later on. Is it possible they moved to the land which had been given to their mother? If Andreas is the son of Alexander he was born in Germany in 1763.
George Clingman is the eldest son of Alexander and Elizabeth as mentioned in Alexander's will. George was born approximately in 1770.
On 7 May 1772 Alexr. Clingerman and several other men were placed on a Jury to layout a road from Salisbury to Henry Fulwider's land. This piece of information indicates to me that Alexander was of mature years and possibly refutes the theory that there were two Alexanders.
On 19 Feb 1774 Alexr. Clingman purchased 281 acres of land on both sides of Second Creek from Philip Aaronhart and his wife, Elizabeth. This land was originally granted to Philip on 26 Aug 1762. Alexander ends up owning much of Philip's land, more so than Philip's own sons. It is this information that leads me to believe that the relationship between Alexander and the Ehrenhardts was more than business. I suspect that he was in fact married to Philip's sister or maybe his daughter Mary.
Alexander's daughter Esther was born approximately 1775. Alexander's children Catherine and Henry Alexander were also born sometime between 1774 and 1786.
Alexander is listed on the 1778 Tax list for Rowan, North Carolina in Capt. Berger's District as Alexander Klingleman, with 525.18.0. It is assumed this is a monetary value.
On 12 Feb 1778 Valentine Waltman entered land on the waters of Second Creek which bordered Alexander Clingerman and Philip Earhart to the south and vacant on other sides.
On 13 February 1778 Peter Little entered land on S side of Second Creek at Stick Leather Springs which bordered Alexander Clingerman.
On 16 February 1778 Micheal Chreight entered land on both sides of Second Creek which bordered Conrad Button and Alexander Clingerman.
On 24 April 1778 Valentine Waltman and his wife Catrena sold to Fredrick Fisher 220 acres on Second Creek . Peter Little and Alexander (X) Kinelma are named. Based on the entries above for 12 and 13 February I am confident this is a reference to Alexander Clingman. Possibly an examination of the original handwriting would clarify the last name.
On 5 August 1778 Philip Rough entered land on the W side of Second Creek which bordered Alexander Clingman and Philip Aronhart.
On 4 Nov 1779 Alexander is appointed as a Juror for Rowan County. Again this is a function normally assigned to a mature person substantiating that there was only one Alexander.
Some Clingman family members claim that Alexander served with General Benjamin Lincoln at the siege of Charleston during March, April and May of 1780, and was captured when Lincoln surrendered on 12 May 1780. The senior officers including Maj. General Benjamin Lincoln eventually were exchanged for British officers in American hands. For all others in the Continental army, a long stay on prison boats in Charleston Harbor was the result, where sickness and disease would ravage them. If Alexander left to join Gen. Lincoln after Nov. 1779 he could have been in Charleston at the surrender. Alexander has never been found on any militia records.
Alexander's son Peter was born about 1780.
Again Alexander was appointed to be a Juror on 10 May, 6 August, and 8 Aug of 1782.
On the 9th of August 1782 Alexander was listed with Michael Crite as a bondsman in giving security to indemnify the county of Rowan on the account of an illegitimate child of Zacharias Lyardly and Barbara Smatters. This may be because he was the neighbor of Henry Smathers or it may be because he was a Juror.
The 1782-1783 Rowan County Tax List of Capn. Grimigars Compy lists Alex Clingerman with £80 and Horses and Mules and cattle.
On 12 August 1783 William Smethers purchased land on Second Creek described as bordering Alexander Clingerman.
On the 10th of October in 1783 Alexander was issued 400 acres of land on Second Creek adjacent to his own land and the land of Philip Earenhart and Frederick Fisher. This was State Grant 486, entered on 27 August 1778 as recorded in book 51, page 124, entry 366. Also recorded in Book 10 page 206.
On 8 November 1783 Alexander was once again appointed as a Juror.
Alexander Grimmenger's Rowan County Tax List, 1784, Taken by George Henry Berger includes Alexander's name.
On 4 November 1784 Alexander's land is used in the description of a purchase of State Grant 1057 by Wm. Smother. The land is adjacent to Alexr. Clingman, Frederick Fisher, and Michael Knight.
Michael, Alexander's son was born about 1785.
Jacob was born on 30 November in 1786.
On 23 March 1788 Alexander Long sells land to Thomas Frohock. Land is 620 acres described as next to town of Salisbury and courthouse lands, next to Alexander Clingerman and John Nisbett. Witnessed and acknowledged in May 1788.
On 8 November 1788 Alexander was once again appointed to serve as a Juror.
4 February 1789, the following men were named to a jury to lay out a road from Salisbury to Fisher's Ferry: Jacob Brown, Willm. Carson, Christn, Crider, Willm. Smithers, Jacob Verball, Peter Gobel, John Shuman, Hugh Morgan, Henry Fullenwider, Jacob Beam, John Redwine and David Pool.
On 7 August 1789 Alex Klingleman and others were appointed to a road jury to layout a road from Salisbury to the Fisher's Ferry. The road will run from Salisbury by William Carson, Jacob Brown, Fredrick Fisher, Alexander Klingleman, and Richard Davis and thence into the old Road Leading to Fisher's Ferry on the Yadkin.
Alexander Klingleman is listed on the 1790 census for Rowan County. In his house are 3 males less than 16, 4 males over 16, and 4 females.
In July 1790 Alexander is reimbursed money by the Treasurer to the Comptroller. This is recorded in 'Revolutionary Army Accounts' Vol. VII, page 86, Folio I. This indicates Alexander provided goods or supplies to the War effort.
On Friday, 6 May 1791 the court minutes record that Elizabeth Davis, orphan of Solomon Davis deceased, being six years and 3 months old is bound to Alexander Klingerman until she attains 18 years. (It is said that Peter and Elizabeth Davis had a child. Elizabeth was sent away and Peter moved to Huntsville. They did not get married. This happened some time after Alexander's death.)
The court minutes note on Friday, 6 February 1795 that Alexander Clingerman is granted an ordinary license, with Jacob Lyardly as security. An ordinary, of course, was an inn or tavern, and appears to have been at the Clingman home.
Alexander Klingerman appears on the 1796 Rowan County Tax List of George Fisher's Company. Alexander is listed with 700 acres.
On 18 June 1796 Alexander purchased 150 acres of land, on both sides of Panther Creek, adjacent to Jacob Fisher, from Henry Smathers. Book 15 page 17.
On 14 February 1797 Philip Ehrenhardt willed part of his land to his son John. The land is described as being adjacent to Lander Klingerman.
Alexander Clingerman is found in the census for Rowan County in 1800. In Alexander's household are listed one male 10 to 16 years of age, 3 males between the ages of 16 and 26, and one male over 45. There are two females between 10 and 16 years of age and two females over 45 years old. It would be interesting to know who the other older female was living in Alexander's household. Elizabeth's father died about 1780 so this might be Alexander's mother-in-law. Elizabeth Davis a bonded servant age 15 should be listed among those living in the house.
Alexander is listed on the 1800 Tax List for Retailer of Spirituous Liquors.
Alexander Clingerman's will is dated 19 June 1803 and it was proved 9 August 1803 indicating Alexander had died.
10 April 1811 Deed 3009 Alexander's land is deeded to his heirs.
14 December 1811 the State grants to the heirs of Alexander Clingman 300 acres on both sides of Second Creek. This is the land that was entered as noted above on 10 April 1811. Bounded by Jacob Smithers, Fisher, Fullwider, John Goodman, and John Ernhart.
On 6 July 1815 Peter Clingman of Surry County, North Carolina, (acting as executor of the will of Alexander Clingman), Abraham Arey and wife Catherine of Cabarrus County, North Carolina (she being another legatee of the said deceased Alexander Clingman) with the said Peter Clingman as attorney for two other heirs of the said deceased (Henry Clingman and Ester Jarratt) let Peter Barringer of Rowan County, North Carolina have the land, where the said deceased formerly lived, which is in three tracts, in all about 985 acres on Dutch Second Creek next to John Arnhart, Adam Snider, William Smathers, Michael Hoffman and others for $1275.00. Witnessed by John Moss, Jesse D. Berkhead and David Woodson and proved by the last named in May court of 1818.
Elizabeth Keiser
Elizabeth Keiser was born sometime around 1744 probably in Germany. She is believed to be the daughter of Peter Keiser and Fanny Garmon.
Elizabeth Clingman is listed on the 1815 Tax List for Rowan County. Find and expound.
Some sources say that Elizabeth moved to live with her daughter Catherine Arey but the 1820 census does not back this up as there are no females over 45 years of age and only 1 between the ages of 26 and 45. Further research may show her living with one of her sons.
In January of 1823 Elizabeth made a trip to Huntsville and back to Concord.
Again on 14 June 1824 there are notes in the Clingman Store Ledger that Elizabeth made a trip to Huntsville.
On 20 November 1826 Elizabeth purchased dishes at the Clingman's store.
Elizabeth died sometime after 1827.

Notes for ELIZABETH ELLER:
The Eller Chronicles, November 1991 has an article on the descendants
of "JACOB ELLER, SR., (the Immigrant)"
where Elizabeth is listed as a daughter of Jacob Sr. thusly:
"Elizabeth Eller, -
b. 1772/73, according to Orphan Court record in Rowan County,
which called her 12 years old on Feb. 9, 1785 (ibid). She may have
been the Elisabeth Eller whose license to marry John Earnhart was
given 23 May 1796 with Jacob Earnhart signing as bondsman.
"The Rowan Co. Minute Book of 9 Feb. 1785, p. 465- Frederick
Eller, aged 18, and Elizabeth Eller, aged 12 orphans of Jacob
Eller, deceased, are apprenticed to Abram Eary. Since the dau. Eve
Eller mentioned in Jacob Eller's will was not orphaned at the same
time the conjecture would be that she was over 18 or deceased.
Evidently the children, Frederick and Elizabeth, at least were
children by the "last" wife Barbary."
I transcribed some of the earlier Chronicles and posted them on line.

Notes on Elizabeth Eller’s family:
http://www.harveypowers.com/christian_eller/fowndx1.htm
Casper ELLER died between 1754 and 1756 in Germany.
It seems likely Casper is Johann Kaspar Eller. According to J.G. Eller of the "Eller Family Association" in an address to the EFA Family Conference in Portland, Oregon, 1993, there is "...no evidence that he [Casper] came to America." This is also the view of EFA historian Ruth E. Goodman (112 N. Brookwood Ave., Rockingham, NC 28379). Both show Casper as Melker and Jacob Eller Senior's father.
There is considerable belief that Christian Eller (RIN #00767) is a third son of Casper Eller (and that Hook's speculation of Michael Eller as the father of Christian is incorrect). There is a Kaspar Eller marriage on 09 May 1751 (perhaps a second marriage?) to Elizabeth HAGEBOELLINGS at Evangelish, Remlingrade, Rheinland, Preussen. The location doesn't appear to match what little we know of "our" Casper.
Casper ELLER and UNKNOWN had the following children:
i. Christian ELLER.
ii. Jacob ELLER , Sr..
iii. John Melker ELLER.
Jacob ELLER , Sr. was born in Germany.(5) He died in Rowan County, NC.(6) Jacob Eller Sr. is a brother to Melker (sic) Eller, and they could be brothers to Christian Eller. All three are mentioned in land purchases about 1760 in Rowan County, NC. Ruth Goodman (112 Brookwood Ave, Rockingham, NC 28379) says Jacob Senior came over on the Ship "Brittania." He makes his first land purchase on the Yadkin River (Rowan County, NC) on 31 Dec 1761. J.Gerald Eller (Rt.2, Box 145-D, Whittier, NC 28789) believes Jacob Eller is the "John Jacob Eyler" who arrived 05 Sep 1748 aboard the "Edinburg" from Rotterdam. He notes that there is a lot of evidence that Jacob's first name was John. And he says Jacob's first land purchase in North Carolina was made jointly with Georg Laembden. Laembden arrived in Philadelphia only two days after the arrival of John Jacob Eyler. Gerald also notes the arrival on the "Edinburg" of Lenhard Ohler (Eller) and Johannes Uhler (Eller). (Letter from Gerald Eller, dated 08 Oct 1993) Is Jacob the brother of Christian Eller? We are not certain. Jacob's will states, "I do consitute, make and ordain my well beloved friends Christian Eller and John Gethe sole executioners of this my last will and testament." He could have been a "beloved friend" and a brother, but one thinks he would have noted that. Researchers from the Eller Family Association show Casper Eller as both John Melker's and Jacob's father. The Casper-Jacob relationship is noted in "Eighteenth Century Emigrants, Volume II, the Western Palatinate" by Annette Kunselman Burgert (The Pennsylvania German Society, 1985). It quotes church records from St. Paul's Lutheran Church (Red Hill) of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, which notes the marriage of "...Jacob Eller, son of Casper Eller, born in the Palatinate, m. 11 Dec 1753 Maria Eva Goettge, daughter of Hannes Goettge, born in Zweybrucken." p. 142. There is also considerable dispute over the children of Jacob and especially which children are by which wife. Most of that debate centers around the daughter Eve. Ruth Earnhardt Goodman (112 N. Brookwood Ave., Rockingham, NC 28379) lists Eve as a daughter of Jacob and his second wife, Barbary (see RIN #3372). And Ms. Peggy Troutman (Salisbury, NC) seems to suggest that John Melker (Melchoir, Michael) might also be a child of Jacob and the second wife. While others aren't even willing to list John Melker as a child of Jacob at all. Jacob's will doesn't help a lot but it does note that the second wife, Barbary, bore him two children who are to get a "chest and the wearing apparrel that apertained to my last wife Barbary."
He was married to Maria Elizabeth "Eva" GETCHEY (daughter of Johannes (Hannes) GOTTGEN and Anna Christina (Hamen) HAMM) on 11 Dec 1753 in St. Paul's Lutheran (Red Hill), Montgomery County, PA. Maria Elizabeth "Eva" GETCHEY was christened on 16 Aug 1732 in Ruschberg, Germany.(7) She was born in Zweybrucken, Germany.(8) She died in Rowan County, NC.(9)
The name is also shown as Maria Eva GOETTGE and Mary Eva GOTTGEN. And Ruth Goodman (112 Brookwood, Rockingham, NC 28379) lists her as Mary Eve Ketchie, daughter of Hannes Ketchie. There is little doubt these are the same person. We apparently not the first to have difficulty spelling German names.
Whatever the case, her nickname was apparently "Ketchey." There is some dispute among Eller historians about Jacob's daughter, Eve Eller. Janine Eller Porter says she is a daughter of Jacob by his second wife (which is what we show here). Ruth Goodman (in the Feb 93 "Chronicles") says she also believes Eve is a daughter of the second wife. Apparently, earlier published efforts have suggested she is a daughter of the first wife, Maria Eva Getchey. Ruth Goodman, however, believes daughter Elizabeth is also by the second wife. Jacob ELLER , Sr. and Maria Elizabeth "Eva" GETCHEY had the following children:
i. John Jacob "Jake" ELLER , Jr..
ii. John Melcher (Melchoir) ELLER.
iii. Joseph ELLER died in 1782 in in the American Revolution. (10) It is possible his full name is John Joseph Eller. Unpublished notes from J.W. Hook list Joseph as "probably a son." He was a Revolutionary War soldier who joined Bailey's company with a brother John (?). He is shown on the record of Bailey's Company, 10 NC Reg. Continental Line, 15 Jan 1782, apparently the day he and John joined. His heir (son ?) John Eller is granted land in Tennessee 17 Mar 1786 for Joseph Eller's "signal bravery and perservering zeal."
iv. John ELLER. Native German families of the 17th and 18th century frequently gave the name John (Johan or Johannes) to all their male children, using a middle name to distinguish between them. Gerald Eller believes this is a seperate person, not John Jacob or John Melcher (listed above). As such, Gerald lists this John as the one who marries Susannah, daughter of immigrant Christian Eller. Peggy Troutman (and this author) believe Susannah married John Melcher Eller. Neither Ms. Troutman nor I can speak to whether there is ALSO a seperate John Eller. However, we show the Susannah connection (and their children) under John Melcher Eller (RIN #3389). A John Eller (this one or John Melcher or John Jacob) joined the Revolutionary Army with his brother Joseph on 15 Jan 1782, Bailey's Company, 10 NC Reg. Continental Line.
v. Christian ELLER.
vi. Christina ELLER. Gerald Eller (EFC, Vol.V, #4, p.253) lists Christina as "..a ninth child of Jacob Eller/Eve Gitchey not listed by Hook."
He was married to Barbary UNK in Rowan County, NC. Jacob ELLER , Sr. and Barbary UNK had the following children:
i. Elizabeth ELLER.
ii. Eve Getchey ELLER.

Notes for ELIAS EARNHARDT:
Elias deeded to Henry Canup, his brother-in-law, 98.5 acres of land and all his kitchen and household goods along with 2 horses, gos and other articles to satisfy debts owing to Michael Brown, Green Redwine and others. This deed was dated December 23, 1848 and at the time he owed over two thousand dollars to the persons mentioned. He instructed Henry Canup to sell (public or private) these articles and land and pay these people. If there was any money left it was to come back to Elias. The deed was drawn up in 1845 and there is no record of Elias in the 1850 census.
It states in Rothrock's diary in an entry made Dec. 25, 1834 that he preached at John Earnhardt's and baptised four children for Elias. Then on June 22, 1842 Rothrock states he went to Salisbury and came home by Elias Earnhardt's place. Elias is also mentioned in a deed of land to Thomas T. Earnhardt and land is referred to as the John Earnhardt tract. Charles Earnhardt (Elias' brother) also sold land to Elias.

She was born Abt. 1768 in Anson, North Carolina, Mecklengburg County, and died 01/09/1798 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
Notes for JOHN EHRENHART:
He was christened 1 Mar 1765 in Lowhill, Northampton Co., Pa. His baptism is recorded in Weisenberg (Lutheran) Church records now located in New Tripoli, Pa.
The six sons of John and Catharine became "orphans" when their father died at the age of 30 and his wife Catharine died 3 years later. At that time NC law considered a child and orphan when the father died, even if the mother still lived. Gaurdianships were set up for the sons and are recorded in Guardian Court records.
John's will was made on 8 May 1795 and proved 4 Aug 1795. He signed his will John Arnhart. He was apparently the first to use the Arnhart surname. However, of his six sons, only George chose to promulgate the surname Arnhart.

George,Jr., was born 29 Dec. 1768 in Lowhill Township, Northampton Co., Penn. He married Hannah Culp on 6 Aug. 1793. They had 10 children. He moved to Bedford Co., Tenn., about 1812 and bought a 1000-acre farm on the Duck River. He was still living there in 1840, but had died by 1850. He is buried on the farm. He created several legal records in Bedford Co. during this period, so we know he never moved.
George Jr.'s son, Daniel was still living on the farm in 1878, according to a county map, and was buried there. Daniel's wife is called Martha in the 1850 census, but is called Ann in his 1883 court-administered estate settlement. Unfortunately, Bedford Co. marraige records and wills were lost in several courthouse fires. They still have the deeds and some court records.
